Grant's Lounge opened its doors on February 16, 1971, when Ed Grant Sr. set out to create a space where great music and genuine community could flourish. What began as a small, unassuming venue on Poplar Street quickly became a landmark in American music history. Its stage helped shape the genre now known as Southern Rock, earning Grant's the title of the Original Home of Southern Rock.
Through its doors came artists who would become legends. The Allman Brothers Band found early support here, along with musicians like Tom Petty, Wet Willie, The Marshall Tucker Band, and many others who would go on to influence generations. Grant's was a rare place where genres blended, talent incubated, and everyone was welcomed equally. The venue became known not only for its musical heritage, but also for its role in fostering unity during a time when many public spaces were still divided.
